Barden and Fracci: "A contest to cope with the emergency of gender discrimination
and to give a jolt of modernity in Florence and its territory "
Art: singular, feminine. Three words represent in a nutshell, the idea behind the competition "Artemisia Gentileschi " that took officially start today from the Palazzo Medici Riccardi, on the occasion of International Day of woman. Art Competition is open to women between the ages of 18 and 40 years old, living in Florence and its province. Palazzo Medici Riccardi a competition organized to enhance the sensitivity women in the arts and to mark another step in the fight against gender discrimination. As a reward, eleven days of the exhibition at Palazzo Medici Riccardi in days between 8 and March 18, 2012.
"The eyes of women are inclined to see art and beauty even in everyday life, in little things, gestures usual - say the President of the Province and the Councillor Andrew Barden Provincial Culture Carla Fracci -. We are interested in investigating the issue of gender equality and tackle the emergence of gender discrimination from every point of view, even in art, drawing inspiration from a modern woman as Artemisia Gentileschi. E 'can sign up and enter the competition individually or in groups. Largo techniques and creativity: it can indeed compete with works of painting, sculpture, photography, video, installations and any other form of artistic expression arts. for painting , you can achieve them in complete freedom of style and technique (oil, tempera, acrylic, ink, vinyl, watercolor, graphite, pencil, collage, etc.). And on any material (canvas, paper, wood, plastic, iron, etc.).. for sculpture and installation is accepted and any organic or inorganic material. The works can make use of sounds, lights, video and mechanical or electrical movements. These signs for videos and photos: videos must have a minimum of 5 minutes and a maximum of 15 minutes for the pictures, please send a maximum of 5 images printed on paper. All works submitted must be unpublished, or ever published not only in volume, but even in the internet or magazines.
Applications for participation in the competition must arrive at the Palazzo Medici in the period between March 8 and November 30, 2011. The deadline for delivery of the works is strictly set for 13.00 on the December 31, 2011.
The winner of the competition will be offered eleven days of exposure to Palazzo Medici Riccardi in the period 8 to 18 March 2012 and a refund of € 3,600 for the transportation of the works, the exhibition design.
Three women will evaluate the works of Florentine artists:
- Cristina Acidini , Superintendent Historic, Artistic and Ethno-anthropological and the Polo Museum of the City of Florence
- Giuliana Videtta , Director of the Academy of Fine Arts in Florence
- Laura Lombardi, a journalist of "Il Giornale dell'Arte."

Simbolo e ispirazione del concorso è Artemisia Gentileschi, presa a simbolo dello stretto rapporto tra arte e femminilità.
